Kind of shoots down claims that the cook in the kitchen was a stand-in for a 50s type mom, doesn't it?

I'm glad the ad was pulled. Let's let them put it into storage, and get on with our lives.

I think it's sad that the ad was pulled. I think it is funny and it's unfortunate that people were offended by it. Same sex PDA is never going to go away, people might as well get used to it.

Same sex PDAs may not ever go away, but they also don't need to be forced down people's throats either.

Undave, probably because they pulled the ads, the whole "stick by your decision" thing

I am glad it was pulled.

Well then we should pull every jewelry, perfume, and beer ad that has EVER been made. It's hypocrisy.

I find it ridiculous that both of you will jump to the defense of a race or religious group that is being discriminated against, but think that gay people are second class citizens. I'm sorry I think it's disgusting.

I'll join a Heinz boycott - if they didn't anticipate some negative reaction when they came up with the ad they're stupid, and pulling it now makes them cowards. If they don't have the courage of their convictions (Mrs. Kerry!) they should stick to songs about slow ketchup.

Also, now that Heinz has pulled this ad I hope they plan on pulling all their commercials that feature a man and a woman kissing because you know I don't want that stuff shoved in my face.

I don't understand why you are glad it got pulled, did it really effect you that much?

I do not think a closed mouth kiss counts as shoving it down people's throats. It isn't as if the commercial featured a full on make out session.

I just watched it and thought it was great. There was nothing overly salacious about it, just a remake of the 1950s era type.

I still think the gag was that the deli guy was a funny fill in for your typical mom. That could be the case while still people get icked out by the man kiss. What a silly situation

I'm terribly amused by this ad being pulled, because I hear so often how provincial and narrow-minded Americans are and how we should be more accepting, like Europeans. Well, it looks as though the UK, at least, must not be as "tolerant" as we've been led to believe. Or someone has been bending the truth a bit.

I stopped buying Heinz during John Kerry's campaign. I may add them to my shopping list again. Evil

gitsie - you are welcome to guess as to what kind of guy I am. If you stick around here much, you may actually get to know me. Until then, please try not to make too big of an assumption about what I think or do.

I agree Laintem. It's great to be like the Europeans, as long as it is liberal.

    UnDave,

You are pretty consistant about showing what kind of guy you are, and on a regular basis. I actually find it quite funny how an ad for an approximately 5 oz. jar of mayo is getting your g-string so knotted and bunched up. Eye-wink

I showed my wife the commercial, and she didn't like it either. She didn't understand the point of the kiss. She thought it detracted from the point of the commercial. Who woulda figured. On most issues, she is almost a polar opposite.

Actually, I think it all boils down to marketing.
Even a bad commercial works if we spend time discussing it.
Therefore, the more controversial it is, the more value may be derived from it.

Think of it like this: they get more free air time on news shows and the internet than they could afford, if they had to pay for it.

Ditto Lain on when Heinz went out the door for me. Old THK was too much for me. And I still see the add as a joke. A stand in cause the condiments make mom such a good sandwich maker. But I suppose quite a few in England disagreed.

Actually UnDave, I usually read the comments but never post. So I think I can pretty much guess why this commercial bothers you so much. I wouldn't think that someone who is so close minded would be okay with two people of the same sex being affectionate.

And, you have to understand, to your "sick homophobes" this ad was offensive. Just as you are offended by them. Everyone has their rights, you may not agree with them, but they have the right. I just wish they had made the ad with like, dogs dressed up or something. Then none of this would be happening.

But Harmony, just as they are here to stay, the other people have every right to be offended. Freedom is a double edged sword in many cases. Some things people widely accept while others they are not. And everyone is entitled to their rights, especially when it is an internal thought and belief. That is what astounds me about libs. They feel that everyone should accept certain things while they are horrified if people accept other things. Sigh, just wish everyone would worry about themselves.

Ummmm....see that the whole point G.S. Gay people do NOT have these rights. Gay people do NOT have these freedoms. I am just as entitled to be offended by your point of view as you are to be offended by gay p.d.a. It's because of archaic viewpoints like the ones you share that it took women until 1920 to be allowed to vote, Black men were allowed to vote in 1870 (but it wasn't fully realized until a century later), some states didn't allow segregated marriages, etc. All of these things that we find RIDICULOUS now and that I have watched all of you defend on other threads were once justified with the same backward logic that you are using now. We will look back on this time years from now and think that gay people not having equal rights is just as archaic as black people not being allowed to vote. I'm sorry I try to be polite on here and I am fond of all of you...but this is one issue that I will never back down from. This is an issue that is just as disgusting to me as racism, sexism, or religious persecution. It usually just makes me sad that some of you feel the way you do, but lately it's been making me angry.

Please explain to me the backward logic that I am using. The kiss wasn't germaine to the advertisement. In fact it detracted from the message which was "Heintz Mayo, so good, your sandwiches will taste like NY City deli specials."

Harmoney, I haven't shared a viewpoint. My viewpoint is to each their own. On another thread I stated that I could care less what people do in their bedrooms. I just don't believe in touting one person's point of view while demonizing another persons, when all points of view are valid. It is completly objective. Just very few people can be objective. And in few cases. I don't know how many times I have to state, I am not a Republican, if anything I am closest to a Libertarian. I just don't want the gov. in my life at all for the most part. I believe in live and let live.

UD this argument is not about the commercial and you know it. I am very familiar with your views on gay rights. I like you and don't want for our sugar friendship to be jeopardized so I will attempt to drop this. Just know that this is a topic that I am extremely passionate about. I'm sure this will come up in other threads.

OK, I promise to take a step back and let it ride. I don't necessarily understand your passion for this issue, but I recognize the freedom you have to own that passion. I have the freedom to own my passion as well, and look forward to great discussions with you on a multitude of subjects, just not this issue. Sticking out tongue
